Week 3 Storylines

We have a new #1 team in the land this week, after Florida State went to Athens and defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 31-14. Oklahoma (#1) and Ohio State (#2) stand in the way of the Florida Gators (#3) and the top spot in the land.

Week 2's "BIG MAN ON CAMPUS" award goes to the Clemson Tigers' defense for forcing 9 interceptions and not allowing an offensive TD in their beatdown of LSU. At the end of the season, we'll do a poll to vote on the Season's Biggest Man on Campus, for the best performance (in a given week) of the entire season.

Last week's big movers were the Clemson Tigers (#7), who dominated LSU in Baton Rouge, and the South Carolina Gamecocks (#16), who overcame injuries to highly touted WR Kenny McKinley and QB Stephen Garcia to pound the Vanderbilt Commodores. The season is young, and many tough games await, but Clemson's dominant performances in weeks 1 and 2 could be a telling sign that the Tigers are ready to step to the forefront of the national title picture.

This week, South Carolina faces its toughest test of the season thus far, as the Gamecocks will play host to Georgia, who will bring an angry bunch of Bulldogs to Columbia after last week's loss. The winner of this game will position themselves as the favorite to challenge Florida & Tennessee for the SEC East Crown.

LSU (#14) hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles, who entered the poll at #25 this week after upsetting Georgia. A hostile crowd will welcome the visiting Tigers and it will be difficult for them to come away with a victory. After an array of struggles at the starting QB position against Clemson, LSU will turn to redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee to lead the team against the 'Noles. Lee has yet to attempt a pass this season, but has the arm strength and accuracy that the Tigers think will lead them to victory. True freshman Jordan Jefferson will move to the back-up QB role after starting in the team's first two games.

Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Auburn open their conference seasons against computer opponents this week, and all are favored for easy victories. Auburn needs to gain confidence and earn its first victory of the season this week, before next week's conference showdown against LSU.
