...And Down The Stretch They Come!

As the RUTS Dynasty enters week 12 of its 2nd season, four teams find themselves smack dab in the middle of the national championship race. LSU (#1), Clemson (#6), Florida (#7), and Virginia Tech (#8) all have emerged as contenders to play in Pasadena for the BCS National Championship Game. LSU is the only undefeated team in the group, Clemson has 1 loss, Florida has 2 losses, and the Hokies have 3 losses. Virginia Tech, however, has used a tough strength of schedule and a monumental upset victory at Clemson to make a huge leap in the BCS standings over the past few weeks.

Florida, Clemson and VA Tech have all secured their births in their conference championship games, and an LSU victory over Ole Miss this week will secure the Tigers' birth in the SEC title game ---- meanining that both games will feature rematches from earlier this season (LSU 37, Florida 7....and VA Tech 42, Clemson 31).

Although the conference chmapionship games appear to be locked up, some tough games remain on each team's regular season schedule. Florida's only remaining game is at home against Florida State. Clemson has an open week before playing Missouri and Ole Miss. Virginia Tech travels to play rival Virginia and Oklahoma before heading to the ACC title game, and LSU plays Ole Miss, Arkansas, and travels to South Beach to play upset-minded Miami in Week 14.

Week 12 Preview - Two Huge Games On Tap

#20 Florida State @ #8 Clemson
Showdown Between Noles & Tigers To Determine ACC Atlantic Division Champ

Season 1 Results - #4 Clemson 41, #17 FSU 7 (in Tallahasse)

The winner of this ACC rivalry will bring home the Atlantic Division crown and will claim its spot in the ACC title game against the surging Virginia Tech Hokies, currently ranked #10 in the BCS standings.

#15 Ole Miss @ Georgia
This SEC matchup has bragging rights galore on the line...the young Jedi vs. Yoda... kinda thing. UGA Coach ZeeJayDee, who officially initiated and invited Ole Miss Coach Hank9481 to join the RUTS Dynasty, now leads his Georgia Bulldogs to battle against the Rebels in Athens. Ole Miss, still ranked #15, is coming off a tough loss to Florida, and Coach Hank9481 has vowed to decapitate any referees from here on out who fail to call a kick-catch interference call against his Rebels. This game may very well come down to defense (creating turnovers) and special teams (fake punt rooskie), and the winner will take a big step in finishing the season off with a bang.

Schrute Farms BMOC Domination

The Schrute Farms BMOC Awards in season 2 have been dominated by the ACC. Through 9 weeks, 8 ACC players have taken home the BMOC Award with no end in sight. Each conference has 3 teams ranked in the Top 25, but it appears the ACC star power is greater than that of the SEC.

In a released statement, the 4 SEC RUTS Dynasty coaches proclaimed, "In this life, or another, we will have our vengence!...Plus, FSU has a bye in week 12, so there's light at the end of the tunnel!"

The SEC, however, holds a 5-3 advantage over the ACC in head-to-head RUTS Dynasty matchups in season 2.

Extra! Extra! Read All About it!
Clemson's 20-Game Winning Streak Snapped At the Hands of Virginia Tech!

In this special mid-week RUTS Dynasty report, the #20 Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the #2 Clemson Tigers last night 42-31 to snap the Tigers' 20 game RUTS Dynasty winning streak. With apologies to Ernest Lawrence Thayer's "Casey at the Bat" the RUTS Dynasty commemorates history being made with a poem...to the tune of "Casey at the Bat"...

The Outlook wasn't brilliant for the Hokie 11 that day:
Their record stood at 3-3 with the Clemson Tigers on the way
And with Clemson’s 20 game winning streak, conference title hopes looked lame
A pall-like silence fell upon the Hokie patrons at the game.

A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest
Clung to that hope which springs eternal in the human breast;
They thought, "If only Charles Butler could but get a whack at all —
We'd put up even money now, with Chucky B’s hands on the ball."

Then from five thousand throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;
It pounded on the mountain and recoiled upon the land,
For the Hokies, and mighty Chucky, had the ball in his hands.

There was ease in Chucky's manner as he stepped into his place;
There was pride in Chucky's bearing and a smile lit Chucky's face.
And when, responding to the cheers, he rarely was even hit,
Before they knew it the visiting Hokies had a lead of 14-zip.

80 thousand Tiger eyes were on him as he held a finger to the sky
Five thousand Hokie tongues applauded when he spiked the ball in the Tiger eye.
Then while the writhing Clemson coach ground the controller to the floor,
Defiance flashed in Chucky's eye, the Hokie fans wanted more

But Clemson did not go silently, for pride was on the line
Playing in Death Valley, their comeback would come in time
And CJ Spiller, wearing orange, kept his Heisman hopes in tact
Clemson made a valiant comeback, many touchdowns came in fact

From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,
Like the beating of the storm-waves on a stern and distant shore;
"Hold That Tiger, Hold That Tiger!" shouted some one on the stand;
And it's likely they'd have held him had not Chucky raised his hand.

With a smile of Christian charity great Chucky's visage shone;
He stilled the rising tumult; he bade the game go on;
He signaled to Tyrod Taylor, his trusty QB in white
They knew this would be no easy task, Clemson would put up a fight

"Boo!” cried the maddened Tigers, and echo answered "Boo!”
For 2 pick 6’s were thrown, and the Clemson faithful turned to gloom
They saw their coach’s face grow stern and cold, they saw his voice screech,
And they knew that a big comeback just might be out of their reach

The clock ticked down with silence, they couldn’t believe their eyes
The end of domination in the RUTS Dynasty would come as a surprise
And now the Hokies hold the ball, and now they take a knee
And now the air is shattered by the clock ticking down 5, 4, 3…

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright,
The Hokie band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout;
But there is no joy in Clemson — the mighty Tigers have struck out.

Week 8 Preview

Games of the Week:
Week 8 provides us with two great conference matchups, both which will have major implications in the division races in both the ACC and SEC.

#20 Virginia Tech @ #2 Clemson

Can anyone slow down Clemson? Winners of 20 straight RUTS dynasty games, the Tigers can beat you in a variety of ways. The Hokies think they have the answer in true freshman phenom Charles Butler. Butler, who is used all over the field in a balanced Hokie offense could prove to be the turning point in this game. With 1 conference loss already, Tech can ill afford to lose its 2nd game. A loss almost locks up the Coastal Division for Miami. Clemson's offense, lead by senior tailback CJ Spiller has given opponents fits this season, and they will look to do the same at home this week. If Tech, known for its stifling run defense, can contain Spiller out of the backfield, look for this rivalry game to go down to the wire.

#23 Georgia vs. #13 Florida
The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party

In one of the SEC's biggest games of the year, the 4-2 Bulldogs square off against the 5-2 Gators in Jacksonville. The winner of this game will have a major leg-up in the SEC East race. Georgia enters the game on a 4 game winning streak and is 4-0 in the SEC, while Florida has 1 conference loss. Neither team has a home field advantage in this annual contest, as the stadium is divided up 50/50. Georgia will look to use its punishing running game to keep the ball away from the speedy Gator offense. This game was close last season, and look for a resurgent Bulldogs squad to play well. This one will be closer than the experts think.

Week 7 Preview

Game of the Week:

The Miami Hurricanes (3-2) roll into Tallahassee this week riding a three game winning streak and looking to move to 4-0 in the ACC. The Seminoles (3-2), ranked #20 in the nation, have been on a tear in recent weeks, winning games with a surprising passing attack. The connection between QB Christian Ponder and WR Preston Parker has been lethal and will be difficult for Miami to contain.
For Miami, the formula is simple...a victory over Florida State almost locks up the ACC division race. The Canes have a game coming up against Virginia Tech, but the Hokies, who already have 1 conference loss (to FSU in week 5) still have a game on the schedule against 2nd-ranked Clemson. A one-loss (in the ACC) Miami team, who doesn't play Clemson in the regular season, could find themselves in the driver's seat in the ACC Coastal Division with a victory in Tallahassee.
Florida State has vowed to go old school this week, bringing back "Prime Time" Dieon Sanders to speak to the team. The Noles will commemorate Snders' visit by wearing headbands and jheri curl hair underneath their helmets.

Miami Coach StuBucksman retaliated by issuing a circa-1980s tribute to his city...rounding up Crockett and Tubbs to accompany the Canes to Tallahassee. Crockett and Tubbs will serve as "Official Team Security" for the duration of the season.

Doak-Campbell Stadium will be rocking and the Seminole fans will be in busting at the seams (this photo, by the way, is 1st thing that comes up in Google Images search of "Florida State Football"---what has happened to your program cjohnchavis!!??) ready to tear into the Canes! Will Miami answer the challenge and earn themselves a victory that could turn their season around. The Canes' running game will need to be clicking in order to keep the ball out of FSU's explosive offense.

ESPN COLLEGE GAMEDAY is on campus...we all know who the Sunshine Scooner is picking, but will his prediction stand? The Canes have promised to carry Coach StuBucksman off the field if they come out victorious.

Week 6 Game of The Week

Game of the Week

Tigers/Gators Part 3!
#8 Florida @ #1 LSU
Season 1 Results ~ Week 7 (in Gainesville) #2 Florida 38, #12 LSU 28
SEC Championship Game #6 LSU 41, #1 Florida 35

One of the RUTS Dynasty's (powered by BRUT) biggest rivalries is renewed again this week. It's the #8 Florida Gators traveling to the Bayou to take on the #1 ranked LSU Tigers. These two teams met twice last season, each one winning once, and this week's showdown promises to be equally as exciting.
Since losing its season opener at #2 Clemson, the Gators have reeled off 4 consecutive blowout victories and new QB Cameron Newton has made himself at home behind center. He'll be challeneged by a relentless LSU defense and a noisy home crowd at Tiger Stadium. Stud WR Percy Harvin, who burnt the Tigers deep time after time last season in Atlanta, will be called upon to work his game-changing magic yet again.
LSU's offense is much improved since season one, with dynamic speed all over the field. The backfield of Keiland Williams, Trindon Holliday, and Bo Outlaw, along with blazing wideouts Terrance Tolliver and Brandon LaFell have LSU's offense leading the nation in points per game, at 65.5. Efficient QB Jarrett Lee leads the RUTS Dynasty(powered by BRUT) in Td passes and fewest INTs (23 TDs, 2 INTs) and will need another solid performance to earn LSU the win.
There will be lightning speed all over the field in Tiger Stadium, and both teams highlight players with 90+ speed at countless positions. A loss for either team doesn't necessarily eliminate either from the national title picture, but a Florida loss would make it a steep uphill climb to make it back near the top of the polls come seasons end.
Both LSU fans and Florida fans alike will be fired up for this one. The Gators have a good feeling they'll be leaving Tiger Stadium with their heads held high, singing their fight song, while LSU faithful, regardless of the outcome will still be drunk off their minds and smelling like corndogs. What a game!
ESPN Gameday is live in campus...and for the first time in RUTS Dynasty(powered by BRUT) history, Corso is picking against the Gators!!

And The Winner Is...

I'm please to announce that BRUT Cologne (aka "Splash On Lotion) has won the vote and is the official title sponsor of Season 2 of the RUTS Dynasty. I'm sure each of us have enjoyed the thrill and aromatic sensation of splashing on a dab of BRUT...be it in 6th grade before the school dance or first thing in the morning after waking up too late to takle a shower. BRUT is really the essence of what the RUTS Dynasty is all about! I expect all league players to be drenched in it for each and every dynasty game! And be on the lookout for a change in the Dynasty Blog Logo!

Schrute Farms was out voted by 1 vote, so the great folks at Schrute Farms, Dwight and Mose Schrute, have accepted our offer to be the official sponsor of the BMOC (Big Man On Campus) Award this season. How lucky are we!!??
