- LSU controlled the clock and the line of scrimmage on its next drive. Marching all the way down to the Husker's 5 yard line, when RB Bo Outlaw took a handoff and was tackled at the 3. The ball was popped loose and the Huskers recovered, seemingly icing the game (with under 2 minutes left). However, the booth reviewed the play and determined Outlaw's knee was down by contact, giving the Tigers the ball back. With 1:04 remaning in the game, LSU tied the score at 21-21.
- Nebraska was forced to punt on its next drive, and LSU ran out of time before it could get into FG range.
- The Huskers won the coin toss and elected to go on defense first in overtime. LSU ripped off a 7 yard run to the Husker 18 on 1st down, but star RB Bo Outlaw was injured on the play (out 1 week). The Tigers got 0 yards on 2nd and 3rd downs, and Coach UTVOL54 decided to go for it on 4th down. But, Jarrett Lee's pass to freshman Mo Robinson fell harmlessly to the turf, and the Huskers took over with the game in their hands.
"We had it 2nd and 3," said Coach UTVOL54. "I thought we executed our gameplan really well for the most part, but I let our team down right there. Instead of throwing back-to-back passes on 3rd and 4th downs, we should have run the ball. All night, we'd been able to get about 5 yards a carry. Those play calls were my fault and could have been the difference in the game."
- Nebraska ran two plays in the middle of the field before sending out kicker D. Davis to attempt the game winning FG. Pandomonium insued, the Husker fans rushed the field and tore the goal posts down, and Herbie Husker and Coach ccut were carried off the field.
- "Wow wow wee wow," said Coach ccut via text message immediately after the game. "I thought it was a consipracy at first, and the refs (by reversing the LSU fumble call) were trying to give LSU the game. But it all worked out in the end, and my defense made a play when it had to. The black shirts are back!"
